We’re stupendously thrilled to be welcoming highly acclaimed band Stick In The Wheel to perform at our Folk Of The Wood ceilidh this February!
“Inspirationally abrasive” (said The Guardian),”Splendidly pugnacious” (said The Telegraph), “The best thing to happen to English folk music for decades” said FRoots – if that weren’t enough, the band also recently won FRoots magazine’s coveted Critic’s Poll Folk Album Of The Year award!
This is set to be a particularly groovy night of ceilidh dancing with Ceilidh Tree featuring foot stomping fiddles and caller Louise Wells to show you the moves plus live music from one of the UK folk scene’s hottest bands! Licensed bar with scrumpy, wine and local ale to keep you reeling. Plus food by Beamish & McGlue.

Live Music, home made cakes, a space to try out some new dances, a sing-a-long, toddlers play area, community scarf knitting and lovely recreational activities.

Our special event is a social, warm and inclusive event. We welcome people in wheelchairs, people with Dementia, and we’d like to reach isolated people in our community.

If you’d like to be involved as a musician, a baker, a dancer, or can or just come for fun, please get in touch.  We are also looking for anyone who can lend their skills in knitting, crocheting and any other crafts-based activities to the event.

If you know someone who would benefit from such an event, please let us know as we may be able to help them get to us.

Admittance is now free, but you can make a donation towards the baking if you feel you would like to support it.

The Portico Gallery regularly hosts our very own Music Hall & Illusion Emporium – an exciting evening of music, comedy and magic taking place on the original music hall stage.  West End singers, comedians, and superb actors and musicians entertain you with songs like ‘The Boy I Love is Up in The Gallery’, ‘Under The Bed’, ‘Oh, Oh, Antonio’, and many more.

Christmas Bazaar – Sun 6th Dec

The fabulous Portico Christmas Bazaar is on
Sunday 6th December

We’ll be decking the hall with boughs of holly and making sure we and add lashings of Christmas sparkle to our final bazaar of 2015.

The bazaar is open on the same day as West Norwood’s fabulous Feast.  And now the festive season has arrived there’ll be even more people in the town who’ll be heading down to check out Portico’s bazaar stalls.

There’ll also be carol singing, mulled wine and mince pies amongst the festive cheer.  So come on down to browse and buy all things Christmassy for yourself, your chums and all the family.

From 10am to 4pm – so come early to grab the best.

The Portico Gallery bazaars are indoors so they’re warm, dry and comfortable with plenty of room for everyone.

Plus music and a licenced café.

We now have a Shop and Booking Office at the front of the Gallery.  Make sure you stock up on cards, pictures, prints, retro fashion and all kinds of art and craft.  And you can also buy tickets to our two flagship Christmas events:

Folk of the Wood & Pirate Ceilidh – Fri 20th Nov 2015

The good ship Portico sets sail once more for a night of nautical mayhem with the awesome SEA SHANTY CHOIR plus BBC award winning pirate band THE SALTS, Ceilidh dancing with guest pirate caller, grog, rum punch and an anamatronic shark or two!

We’ve got some very special stowaways next Friday 20th November for our Pirate Ceilidh including The Salts (pictured) – “Twenty first century folk fires a respectful broadside at the traditional”

We’ve also got the stupendously talented Sea Shanty Choir and Ceilidh Tree with pirate caller and some nautical dances! Tickets are starting to run low and we do expect this event to sell out fairly shortly – if you’re planning to board, booking soon is highly recommended!

Cut-A-Rug: Unrugged Folk Night – Thurs 12th Nov

Following the success of our recent Cut-A-Rug: Unrugged folk nights, we’re now holding these wonderful evenings more regularly.
The Portico Gallery will host the next Unrugged folk night on Thurs 12th Nov so come join us for a wonderful and unique night of acoustic and unplugged acts from the local area, supporting amazing artists with and without disabilities.
Acts for both nights include guitarists, Motown singers, opera soloists, jazz pianists, comedians and DJs.
