The Marx Brothers’ 1933 comedy classic Duck Soup, directed by Leo McCarey, who also directed our opening comedy shorts. Saturday 13th February from 7.30pm.
Rufus T. Firefly is named president/dictator of bankrupt Freedonia and declares war on neighboring Sylvania over the love of wealthy Mrs. Teasdale.
The Marx Brothers’ arnarchic satire is a comedy landmark and widely considered a masterpiece amongst critics. In 1990 the United States Library of Congress deemed Duck Soup “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry.
