For our next Music Hall and Illusion Emporium, we will be bringing the West End to West Norwood – AND the Pier to the Portico! Sail along with our Seaside theme, and sing along with sunny abandon. That’s the way to do it!
Sun, 25th May 2014 – doors open at 7pm. Join Auntie Rose and her vintage Victrolas, West End Singers Gentleman Jim and Lovely Lara, Comedienne Charmian, Illustrious Illusioneer Barrie, our own Miss Gypsy Hill and all our lovely others…and if you’re good, very, very good, you may be visited by Fairy Snowdrop.
Our Music Hall evening last December was the first such performance in one hundred years on the original West Norwood Public Hall Music Hall stage. Come and join us as the bring the spirits of Music Halls past back to glorious, if not rude, health.
Tickets may be reserved by phone (put gallery number), and may be paid for at the Portico Gallery between 3 and 7pm each day, or before 7.15pm on Sunday 25th May
There will be a play read through this Thursday (24th April) hosted by our wonderful RADA trained drama teacher Deirdre Strath Clyde. At time of this going to press the play being read is a closely guarded secret. So, if you want to know, you’ll have to pitch in, speak up and enjoy. Bring a snack or drink/courage to share… To join us for a bit of drama, come along this Thursday from 6:15pm.
See you there!
Our next Music Hall Sing Along night will be 15th May – once more we’ll be singing songs of days gone by, crowd pleasers such as ‘I do like to be Beside the Seaside’, and tongue teasers like ‘What I Want is a Proper Cup of Coffee’, so ‘Don’t Dilly Dally!’ Join us from 7.45 to 8.45 pm, doors open 7.15 to share drinks and chat. Raise your voice and lift your spirits, and get in the mood for our Music Hall event on the 25th May.
Look out for these Saturday drawing classes, especially for people who never thought they could!
These classes start at 9.30am and run to 3pm every Saturday. The courses cost £200 for six sessions and are run by Chrissy Thirlaway, a highly experienced art tutor who teaches a variety of other classes and believes wholeheartedly that anyone can draw with the proper tuition. Chrissy is also an internationally recognised fine artist: her work is on display as far afield as Brasil.
The present course ends on 29th March; so keep checking our website for the start date of the next.
