Workshops
LIFE DRAWING
8 weekly sessions of 3 hours on a Thursday evening from 6.30 to 9.30 at The Portico Gallery. The first course started on 10th January, other courses will follow on immediately after.
The course will be run by Chrissy Thirlaway, an internationally recognised, practicing fine artist with years of experience of teaching at art schools (at present teaching at Putney Art School) and on private courses.
She specialises in life drawing in her own work.
You will work directly from the life model, Chrissy will be on hand to guide and advise. This course is suitable for both beginners and those with varying amounts of previous experience. Figure drawing is the traditional core of art training as it is excellent practice to develop the perceptual skills needed to understand line, tone, perspective and composition and to draw with competence and individuality.
The gallery has plenty of easels, drawing boards (A1 & A2) and chairs and the model will be lit by special directional lighting.
Other equipment, such as board clips, pencils (2b or 6b), various types of paper, charcoal, erasers, sharpeners may be purchased from us at a considerably discounted price.
The cost of the whole course is £150 and a 'taster' evening costs just £20. (Experienced artists who don't require tutoring are most welcome as well).
Gift vouchers for these workshops are now available in values to suit you.

CERAMICS
8 weekly sessions of 3 hours on Saturday afternoons at The Portico Gallery
These courses (including Raku) are run by Emma Fenelon.
Since qualifying with a 1st class honours degree from Camberwell, Emma has been collecting awards, commissions and not a little controversy as one of the most innovative ceramacists around today.
The gallery has two Raku kilns and a large standard kiln as well as plenty of studio space (both indoors and out) and storage (work must be dried thoroughly before biscuit firing and then glazed and either Raku or standard fired)
Pottery for everyone from complete beginners to those who already have some experience with clay. Beginners will get a grounding in the basic skills and methods of making and decorating in clay. People who already have some experience will receive the stimulus and help they require to develop their skills and projects. Different clays and different techniques will be explored and experimented with.
The cost of the Saturday course is £200 and a single session costs just £25.
The price includes the cost of clay and firing. Tools may be purchased from us at a heavily discounted cost, but try ours first to help you decide what you need.
