RAKU ‘happiness in the accident’
Due to demand from ceramic artists, Emma and John are organising a series of Raku weekend (Saturday and Sunday) events.
New comers are very welcome!
Dates are 26th & 27th May, 2nd & 3rd June, 9th & 10 June, 16th & 17th June and 23rd & 24th June.
That will be one 3 hour session of making and one 3 hour session of Raku firing spread over two weekends.
The cost will be £160 for the two sessions and includes clay, glazes and two firings (biscuit and Raku).
Times are still to be confirmed and the dates will be finalised depending on interest.
Raku is pottery fired starting with a cold kiln and removing the pieces from the kiln when they have reached bright red heat then immediately placing them into containers with combustible materials. Once the materials ignite, the containers are closed. This then produces a reduction in the amount of oxygen available which affects the colours of the glazes and the clay.
For the originators of the art it was a spiritual experience.
Indeed, happiness in the accident’.
